Well, I was recently described – somewhat grand eloquently – as “One of the dining industries most important and influential figures” and you might not be alone in asking how did that come about?
Having grown up in my parent’s hotel I was fascinated with the hospitality industry from an early age and over 25 years ago, founded the Hi-Life Diners Club. Over that period I developed the company to international success becoming the UK and Irelands number one dining promotion with over 100,000 members.
Incredibly, those same members went on to spend over £500 million in our thousands of partner restaurants. This, in turn, led to me working in partnership alongside, amongst others, luminaries such as Raymond Blanc, Gary Rhodes and Marco Pierre White and now, my thoughts, comments, musings and perturbations are sought by a host of different hospitality orientated media.
From being one of the founder judges for Restaurateur Magazines “50 Best Restaurants in the World”, I’ve gone on to become a much sought after spokesperson for the media on all aspects of dining – from both a restaurateurs prospective as well as a diners – with many appearances on television and radio – as well as contributing my own column to a range of titles.
Having sold my controlling interest in Hi-Life for a substantial seven figure sum in 2006, I am now an independent voice able to speak out about some of the issues, developments and downright absurdities that the food industry often face.
With an interest that also encompasses travel as well as a select and very limited band of consultancy projects, my views have always been a breath of fresh air – although sometimes as welcome as halitosis. I intend to tell it like it is to the mutual benefit of diners and restaurateurs alike.
